Visit Grand Prairie Where To Eat, Play and Stay

Centrally located in the DFW Metroplex, there’s a ton of fun waiting for you in Grand Prairie! Straddling the East Side of the Entertainment Corridor, Grand Prairie offers visitors fun in the sun on Joe Pool Lake, as well as great venues for food and excitement for the whole family! Plan a day trip of spend a weekend, you won’t run out of things to do!

Foodies needn’t starve while visiting Grand Prairie! The recent revitalization of Downtown Grand Prairie is bringing in some new restaurants, and the older ones are still standing tall despite their Covid-19 restrictions! Here are some of my favorites!

Eat

Chicken N Pickles 2965 S. Hwy 161 is so much fun, and located right in the heart of Grand Prairie! Great food, drinks and tons of activities, including Pickle Ball! They have indoor and outdoor Pickle Ball courts, and they offer private and group lessons, beginner’s classes, meet ups, open play and so much more! There’s also corn hole boards, giant jenga, giant Connect 4 boards and even a giant Battleship!

We first came across Mixed Up Burgers after a visit and tour of the apiary at nearby Nottingham Bees! They have amazing burgers that you can add-in your favorite toppings, as well as terrific onion rings! It’s a little hidden off Hwy 360, which makes finding it that much more fun!

Firehouse Gastro Pub is a great new addition to Downtown Grand Prairie, with terrific food in a big and fun outdoor space!

Radial Cafe If you or your children love planes, be sure to check out this little restaurant at the Grand Prairie Airport, where you can watch the planes take off and land while you eat.

Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake

Play

Grand Prairie sits on the Western banks on Joe Pool Lake, and has 2 lake parks where you can enjoy a day or weekend out on the lake! Loyd Park offers camping, a swim beach, boat ramp, fishing, hiking and a playground, and has fun events throughout the year, such as their movies on the beach during the Summer and their Haunted Hayrides each October! Lynn Creek Park is a Day Use Park with picnic tables near the Lynn Creek Marina and Oasis Restaurant. It is also the home of the annual Prairie Lights Holiday Light Display each year!  Lynn Creek Marina rents boats, jet skis, kayak and paddleboards, and also the fun Big Kahuna Party Boat!

We’re loving these new Destruction Rooms, and the Endorphin Factory in Grand Prairie is a blast, (if you’re 15 and over) and you can relive the copier scene from Office Space! They also have ax-throwing! It makes a great date night idea!

Grand Prairie Farmers Market was recently rated as one of the best Farmers Markets in Texas, with locally grown fruits and veggies, cooking demos and much more.

Action Park is a large indoor skate park and outdoor bike park with fun camps for kids, birthday parties and much more! They even offer ride-a-bike lessons and skateboard lessons for kids!

Lone Star Park has live horse racing, and is really fun for the entire family! Their enclosed dining area, Silks, with big windows for watching the race and a large chef’s buffet (currently closed due to Covid) is always a favorite with out family, even those who barely watch the race! It’s a great space to celebrate birthdays, where they will play Happy Birthday on the race bugle!

The Theater at Grand Prairie is a large concert venue near Lone Star Park and Quik Trip Park. It sits waiting, like the rest of us, for concerts to return!

Sitting along I-30, you won’t miss the big Palace that houses Ripley’s Believe It Or Not and the Louis Tussaud’s Palace of Wax! Open daily, it’s a fun and interesting look into the bizarre at Ripley’s, and you’ll be astounded at the Palace of Wax!

Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark is open and a great way to keep cool all year long! The big, indoor waterpark is a great place to enjoy a day at the waterpark, no matter what time of year! It is located off SH 161, near The Epic, Grand Prairie’s incredible community center!

Play Grand Adventures is the all-abilities park in Grand Prairie, located by Epic Waters!

Central Bark is Grand Prairie’s 3-acre dog park!

Traders Village is a huge, open-air flea market with rides and festivals all year! Check out their newest ride, the Prairie Screamer.

Stay

Tru By Hilton is a nice, clean hotel off I-30 and convenient to both attractions in Grand Prairie and Arlington. I just wish they had a pool. Hilton’s Home 2 Suites on I-20 does have an outdoor pool.

Loyd Park is a destination for many RVers coming to DFW, and they also offer camping, cabins and a lodge.
