Walking in the lavender field at Lavender Ridge Farms in Gainesville, it’s easy to forget that you’re in North Texas, and not the countryside of Provence! The farm offers you the opportunity to harvest your own lavender from the plant, and they’ll even show you how! In addition, you can browse their gift shop and enjoy their lavender inspired cafe! Kids will love just being on the farm, filled with animals and places to run!

Know Before You Go
The farm is open seasonally Friday – Sunday, from 9am – 5pm. As with any pick your own farm, check their website and/or call before visiting to confirm.
It’s rural, wear closed toed shoes.
They accept credit cards.
No pets.
Before you head out, decide how much lavender you are going to want to pick, and for what purpose. It’s easy to get carried away and cut more than you need, or not have enough for a project or recipe! You can find plenty of inspiration on pinterest!

Pick Your Own Lavender
They grow two types of lavender at the farm, ornamental and culinary. I wanted to dry it to hang near my door and windows to keep out insects, so I picked the ornamental. It’s $8.00 a bundle, and they show you how to cut it.

Lavender LOVES full sun, so it’s a good idea to arrive early, and don’t forget sunscreen.

Gardens
We also just loved strolling through their lovely, and often whimsical gardens! We love this “flower” bed, and you’ll definitely chuckle when you see their version of a cherry tree!

Of course, all the flowers attracted all different colors and shapes of butterflies, too!

Gift Shop
Inside the gift shop they have soaps, sachets and all things lavender!

The Cafe
Open Friday – Sunday, 11am – 3pm.
Sit beneath the big shade trees and enjoy the Cafe’s wonderful, lavender-inspired menu. I had the yummy lavender-honey chicken salad and lavender lemonade! A copy of their menu is on their website.
With a little begging, we were able to get the recipe for their wonderful lavender lemonade. They seep their culinary lavender in hot water for 15 minutes, then add it to a pitcher of lemonade. You can purchase the culinary lemonade either loose or in bags in the gift shop.
