Whitecap Beach, Corpus Christi

Whitecap Beach is a FREE small beach on the coast.  At just 1.5 miles long, it’s a great place to get away for just a little bit!  A favorite spot for surfers, there are usually good waves and as part of the City of Corpus Christi, the sand is cleaned each morning with a sandboni, a machine pulled by a tractor that not only cleans the sand of debris, but makes it light and fluffy!

The beach at Whitecap on an early Summer day!  The beach is open 24/7, all year!  Overnight camping is allowed on the beach, as are beach fires (in a hole in the sand, please remember to fill when finished, and grills, unless stated otherwise.

Well behaved, leashed dogs are allowed on the beach.  Please clean up after your pet.

Parking is allowed on the beach with a beach permit.  You can purchase either a day pass or an annual pass.  They are available not only on the beach, but also from area stores.  If you don’t want to drive your car on the sand, there is FREE parking lot on Windward, with restrooms and showers.

Whitecap Beach is the home of the Padre Island Surf Camp, also.  My daughter attended their Summer Camp for several years, and loved it! It’s a great place to learn to surf!

There was a strong North wind on this visit, and the windsurfers were out enjoying it!  We had a lot of fun watching their great tricks!  Want to learn?  361KITE offers lessons and gear!

The end of Whitecap Beach is marked by the South and the North jetty of the Packery Channel.  The channel leads to the bay.  There is great fishing along both jetties.

It’s so exciting to spot green sea turtles eating algae off the jetties, too!

One of the most exciting things during one visit was there were an abnormally large number of sea turtles swimming in the surf off the beach!  A high North wind had pushed many of them out and it was pretty neat to swim along side them.  I tried to get some good pictures, but I do not have the patience needed!

The turtles are protected and not to be touched, even if you find one in distress.  If you find an injured, sick, nesting or dead turtle, please call the Texas Sealife Center at 1-866-TURTLE-5.
