Salmon Lake Park, Grapeland

There are some really good secret swimming holes in East Texas, where you can always find a little shade, and the cool spring water has a light brown tint from the tannin in the pines.  Salmon Lake is one of our long-time favorites.   We usually just go to swim for the day, but they also offers cabins around the lake.

The park has recently been purchased by new owners, who have made some great new improvements.

I love this lake, which has a sandy bottom in most places, and is considerably deep, and always filled with happy kids and families!  There seems to always be a family reunion going on each summer weekend, and I’ve never visited that someone didn’t offer us food!

My kids love the diving board!

There is a playground, and picnic tables along the lake.  You can bring a cooler, food and use a grill.
