We are ALWAYS looking for homemade ice cream. Where it’s made in the store, usually that day, and while vanilla will always be my favorite flavor, I want to try something unique. Unique is the perfect word to describe Howdy Homemade Ice Cream!
Located in Dallas’ University Park area, it’s on the East Corner of Lovers Lane and the Dallas North Tollway, and a great stop after shopping, riding the Katy Trail or visiting the nearby Frontiers of Flight Museum!
Howdy is known for their Dr Pepper Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, and it’s about as wonderful as it sounds! If you’re a Pepper, you’ve got to try it!
There are a few tables inside to help keep your ice cream from melting away in the summer heat!
We also had to try the Banana Chocolate ice cream, which was equally incredible! They are happy to hand out samples to people like me who can’t decide, and the Hot Tamales and Watermelon Sorbet were also on my favorites list!
The staff was great about answering questions for my son, who has decided to start doing the interviews when we go places! He was SO excited that Howdy also lets you make suggestions for ice cream flavors you’d like to see! Since the ice cream is made in the store daily, they can get as creative as they want! His suggestion? Root Beer Chocolate Chip!
Howdy Homemade is a based on the belief that food is a people business, and owner Tom Landis goal with Howdy was to not only create great ice cream, but to hire people an often overlooked segment of the adult work force, those with special needs, and to train them, as well as hopefully encouraging other businesses to open themselves to hiring special needs adults, as well. We didn’t know this before or during our visit to Howdy, we just knew they had great ice cream and a really fun and understanding staff that wanted to make sure we left with our favorite flavor!
