In my life before children, I once worked in Little Elm, and there was NOTHING there! Food wise, there was a little BBQ stand, and a Sonic in The Colony. I haven’t been back in years, and WOW! Little Elm now boast a GREAT, FREE Swim beach, the Hula Hut restaurant almost across the street, next to Hydrous Wake Park!
After a fun and exhausting day at the Little Elm Beach, click HERE to read about it, we went over tot he Hula Hut for dinner before driving out to The Coyote Drive In in Lewisville, about 30 minutes away, to watch Spiderman Homecoming!
There is a lagoon behind the restaurant with a shark and a volcano that erupts every half hour, spewing water and lights at night, so I was told. My son asked if they ever allow swimming in the lagoon, and was told NO, the shark would eat him!
We choose seating in the covered patio, which is where just about everyone was seated. There was a terrific breeze, assisted by open windows and fans, and everyone seemed very comfortable.
This was the view from our table, looking out to Hydrous Waterpark!
Here’s the view from another table across the patio, of the volcano during an eruption!
The Hula Hut calls their food, Mexonisian Style, and apparently Mexonisian Style includes complementary chip and chunky hot sauce! it was SO good. We also ordered queso, that my table of starving children gobbled up before I had the lens cap off my camera!
I only had time to get one shot of my plate, a Shrimp Pipeline Enchilada that I split with my son. This is just half the enchilada! They cut it in half, and served us both a plate with beans and rice! I LOVE that attention to customer service! My son and I almost always share a plate, and while I don’t mind cutting up our food, and splitting it myself, it’s always SO nice when a restaurant cares enough to do it for you!
The entire waitstaff was terrific! Our waiter Jeff always had a smile on his face, no matter how many times he was questioned about different thing by my 9 year old! He never let our drinks or our chip basket go empty!
The hostess was terrific when my son’s crayon broke. She offered him another one, but took the time to find him tape when he said he’d rather fix it then just throw it away!
After we ate, I had a few minutes to walk around and get pictures of the interior, where it’s not surprising, because they have such a great patio, but very few people were seated inside!
They did have a great view, though!
This is the patio where we sat, they could also see the volcano, shark and the lake out beyond that!
Know Before You Go
We went on a Thursday about 6, and were seated immediately. Expect a wait if you’re visiting on a weekend, and try to eat earlier than the big dinner crowds!
