Each January 1st, people around the world celebrate by taking a “Polar Plunge”!
Some of those people live where it is VERY cold, and jumping into cold water is painful!
The Texas weather is unpredictable, and while some years it may be freezing, just as often it feels like a spring day!

This was our first year, but won’t be out last, to do the Polar Plunge at Barton Springs Pool in Austin! We couldn’t believe how crowded it was!
The water, which is Spring-fed, is a constant 68 degrees all year. This year, the air temperature that morning was also 68 degrees, and the water felt great!
Well, it felt great after a minute or two, if you stayed in, which my son clearly did not! He actually just wanted to head over to the diving board…
Where he and my daughter spent the next hour jumping! Happy New Year!
Barton Springs Pool
Barton Springs Pool is a huge, natural spring-fed pool in Austin’s Zilker Park! The pool is open year-round, and since the water is a constant 68 degrees, it can even be warm during the winter! Special Olympics Polar Plunge
While the Polar Plunge at Barton Springs Pool is not connected with Special Olympics, I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about them! As a way of raising funds, the Special Olympics host Polar Plunges each winter around the state and country! Click HERE to visit their website and find one near you!
