Born on October 30th, the Dallas Zoo’s new baby hippo, Kalo was introduced to the public today! She and Mom Boipelo ventured out into their enclosure, and baby Kalo nursed while mom munched on some hay, then the two headed into the water for a short swim before emerging again to finish snacking. Kalo is the second baby hippo born at the Dallas Zoo. Big sister Adanna hasn’t met sweet Kalo yet, but we hope they’ll soon be best friends! We were invited out to the first public viewing of Kalo, and the announcement of her name and gender from the Dallas this morning, and it was pretty wonderful! Please enjoy my plethora of pictures, and I lucked out because my friend Veronika, who is actually a photographer with a real camera, came with me! Enjoy and go say hello to Kalo, Boipelo and Adana yourself! Dallas Zoo Lights is currently going on, another reason to enjoy the Dallas Zoo!
