Swimming

The swim beach offers visitors a roped off area for cooling off from the hot summer days.

Lifejackets are provided, free of charge.

Life Guards are not present, swim at your own risk.

Don’t forget water shoes.  The lake bottom is a typical lake, and a little squishy in places.

The big playground at the swim beach was always a hit for my kids when they were younger! They would always crawl under the big rock (it’s hollow inside). On our most recent visit, my youngest, now a freshman in high school, went to the park with friends and came back and said they climbed under the rock! I guess that you’re never too old!

Outdoor enthusiast and adventure seekers will enjoy some of the park activities, such as a nice and easy hiking trail that runs along Walnut Creek. over 10 miles of Mountain Bike Trails, and the Walnut Creek Paddling Trail.

The Forest of Fear

For 2 weekends each October, the park celebrates Halloween with campers decorating their campsites, dressing up and passing out candy to an endless line of trick-or-treaters.

Visitors can either come for the day to trick-or-treat, or overnight camp and decorate their campsite.  We’ve done both…and love it!  Here’s some of my best tips…

If you are just coming for the evening:

The campers definitely get scarier later in the evening, so go early with young children.  Campsites also tend to run out of candy fairly quickly, so go early.  Once the candy is gone, they really just want to scare you!

If you are planning to camp:

Make your reservations EARLY, usually by May.  I’ve lucked into cancellations in the past, so it’s always worth a try.

Campers are required to decorate, and some campsites really go all out.

Bring plenty of candy, you won’t believe how busy it is!
