What’s New at the State Fair of Texas for 2022!

It’s one of the best times of the year, the State Fair of Texas! Open for 3 wonderful weekends, the State Fair brings all the best in live concerts, entertainment, food, rides and animals to Fair Park in Dallas! 2022 is going to be bigger and better than ever!

I’m going to recommend the Deep-Fried Charcuterie and the fried lasanga for my favorites for this year! We never go to the State Fair of Texas hungry, and aside from a Fletchers Corn Dog, we share the yummy fried winners.

Know Before You Go

Parking can be a real headache, especially on weekends.  Avoid the main parking areas, and ONLY park on the Fair Grounds.  We usually try to park using Gate 2/Haskell just past the Dart Rail. Preferred Parking is $40, but lets you out with a straight shot to I-30! It also lets you in the gate that leads straight to Big Tex and the Original Fletchers Corn Dog Stand, which is always my first stop!

Outside food is allowed at the Texas State Fair.  Save some money and pack lunch. Just no glass or alcohol.

Port-a-Pottys are located throughout the Fair Grounds, but REAL restrooms (with changing tables) are located in all the EXPO buildings.

Coupon vendors accept credit cards, but you’ll still want to have a little cash.

Thrifty Thursdays are a great reason to plan to visit on a Thursday, when participating food vendors offer special pricing!

The sights and sounds of the Midway are amazing, but so is the cost of everything!  It helps us to plan ahead what we are going to ride.  My favorites are the Texas Star Ferris Wheel, Top O’ Texas Tower, Texas Skyway or the 1914 Dentzel Carousel.  We usually just pick one, and switch out each year.

The carousel is one of only 3 still working in the United States. It has 66 horses, a Wurlitzer Organ and has been a part of the Texas State Fair for 70 years.

The 212′ Texas Star Ferris Wheel is the second largest ferris wheel in the United States, with the 550′ High Roller in Las Vegas being the tallest.

Starlight Parade

Don’t miss the Starlight Parade, which starts each night at 7:15. The beautiful and impressive Budweiser Clydesdales will be in the parade each evening, also!

Big Tex

Take a picture with 55′ tall Big Tex.  It’s a tradition.

We had just taken a picture 20 minutes earlier on the day Big Tex caught fire in 2012.  Those are some of my favorite State Fair pictures!

The Auto Show has been a part of the Texas State Fair since 1904! Check out all the new cars!

The Errol McCoy Greenhouse is one of the permanent features of Fair Park, and shouldn’t be missed!  Kids, as well as adults, will love the Texas Garden Railway.  Check the schedule for gardening and pumpkin carving workshops.

The Country Roundup on the Dr. Pepper Midway Stage is a puppet and marionette show that your kids will love!

Pee Wee Stampede.  Little cowpokes, between the ages of 4-8, can enter the arena to race stick horses.  Showtimes 11:30, 12:30 and 1:30 the Ranch Arena.

Texas Discovery Gardens is open daily, and admission is half price during the State Fair, and will have butterfly releases every day at noon. Purchase a yearly membership to the Texas Discovery Gardens, $65 for a family, and receive up to 4 one-day weekday tickets to the State Fair, plus a year of enjoyment in the garden and butterfly house!
