One of our favorite swimming holes this summer has been at Rio Vista Park in San Marcos, and if you visit you’ll love it, too! While most of the tourist head down to the Comal and Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, the locals and college students love this great spot on the Pristine San Marcos River!
To keep cool in the Summer, we usually float from San Marcos City Park down to Rio Vista Falls, and shuttle back with Lion’s Club Tube Rental. It’s about an hour float down, depending on the river flow, and very peaceful. The San Marcos River always has a good flow, and you never have to worry about walking or paddling in your tube!
Lion’s Club Shuttle picks up at Rio Vista Park, and we usually just hang out in the water for a while before we leave. we always hang out to play in the water, and since the park is FREE, many times this summer we would just head over to the park!

There is a ton of parking in the park, and on hot summer days it fills up along the roads, too! We like to bring a tube and just relax in the rushing water! My youngest just likes to keep going down the falls!
Leashed dogs are allowed in the park and on the river! It’s a great way for them to keep cool, too! Remember to love the river and keep it clean!
One of the great things about this park and swimming area is that you are right next to one of our favorite places to eat! We walk across the bridge to Ivar’s River Pub, which has a great patio, and looks out on the river! They also have live music in the evenings for a full day of fun!
