Klyde Warren Park is Still One of the Best Places to Visit in Dallas!

Dallas has some of the coolest things, but what could be better than a FREE, fantastic City Park in Downtown, with amazing daily scheduled activities, water features for keeping cool during the summer and awesome food trucks lined up daily?  Well, Klyde Warren Park in Dallas is all that, plus it’s actually built OVER the Woodall Rodgers Freeway!  How cool is that?

According to D Magazine, Klyde Warren Park welcomed it’s “10 millionth visitor since opening in 2012, making it one of the most popular destinations in the city.”

While the park is small, at only 5.2 acres, it has so many amazing activities!  Talk about effectively using your space!  There are plans to enlarge the park, which should be completed about 2024.

You would never know that you are sitting over one of the busiest freeways in Dallas, the 9th largest city in the United States!  Trees have been planted, as well as grass and lots of flowers!  Chess tables are set up for use by guest, and you can “borrow” magazines and some books for reading in the shade.  They even have board games!

The Children’s Park is fenced off from the rest of the park, and the busy side streets, so you don’t have to worry about kids running off – my youngest was a runner!  They have a water feature and climbing structures!

The splash area is perfect on a hot day!

My kids enjoyed this climbing structure, and I enjoyed the terrific skyline all around us!

Climbing plays an important role in the development of a young child.  Not only are they building muscles from pulling themselves up, but they are learning about their proprioception, the knowledge of where your body parts are without having to look at them, and their vestibular sense, which allows them to understand where there body is in relation to their surroundings!  Even the simple task of grasping onto what they are climbing on is a pre-writing skill!

Awesome!

Yes, real restrooms, with changing stations and lots of hand washing options!

CIMG0195

The playspace for younger children was unlike any we had seen before!

The Muse Family Performance Pavilion has fun concerts and even movies in the park during the Spring, Summer and Fall!

CIMG0201

The Ginsberg Family Great Lawn is a wide open space for games of tag, kite flying and so much more!

CIMG0202

Yoga classes, stroller boot camp and active meditation are just some of the daily activities that take place on the Great Lawn.  It’s such a peaceful escape from the busy downtown.

CIMG0203

We walked down and crossed Olive St. to the East Lawn.  Here you can borrow golf balls and putters to work on your game.

CIMG0204

Park employees push little carts, from which you can obtain balls for the fooseball table and ping pong tables, too!  They just require a form of identification to secure it!

CIMG0206

As a family, as a whole, we spend way too much time playing ping pong…..

My son LOVES the Big Blue Blocks!  They aren’t at the park every day, so check the schedule if that’s a must for your kid!

CIMG0207

While the whole park is dog friendly, there is even a small, off-leash dog park!

CIMG0037

Hungry?  There are picnic tables everywhere at the park, or you can bring a blanket and use the many open spaces!  .Can you see the food trucks in the background?  They are there every day!

You NEVER know WHO you might see playing frisbee in the park!
