Padre Balli Beach Park and Bob Hall Pier, Corpus Christi

If you’re looking for a fishy fun weekend in Corpus, it’s all in one place at Padre Balli Park!  We spent the weekend fishing, swimming, surfing and just playing on the beach!

Padre Balli Park offers to beach goers almost 400 acres, with beach front access, camping areas for both RV (54) and tents (35) with water and electricity.  They have restrooms and showers for both day use guest and overnight campers.  They are public restrooms, so not always the cleanest.

Bob Hall Pier is a great place to go fishing!  It is a pay to fish pier, and the best fishing is usually during the night.  They sell bait and you can even rent your poles and tackle.  During the day you can spot green sea turtles swimming in the surf and eating algae growing on the pier.  Dogs are not allowed on the pier.

There is also a restaurant, Mikel Mays, which overlooks the water.  I like their shrimp baskets and housemade crab cakes!   They had live music on the night we were there.

Shark fishing is a big attraction on piers, and you can watch as they bring in a big one from the end of the pier.  There is a fee just to walk out on the pier.

If you’re parking on the beach, either in Corpus Christi or Port Aransas, you will need a Beach Parking Permit, unless you are just parking at the Bob Hall Pier Parking lot.

The area near the pier is also a great place for experienced surfers to surf!  We’ve had great luck renting from Wind and Wave Watersports in Corpus Christi, which has surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks and even boogie boards for rent!   My daughter has taken lessons for years with Padre Island Surf Camp!  They offer day camps and camps by the week, and even young children can surf!

Before you venture out into the water, be sure to be aware of the flag warning systems!  Click HERE to learn more about the flags and what their colors mean.
