There’s no better way to end a day floating the river than followed by an evening watching a movie under the stars!
The Stars and Stripes Drive In is a terrific way to end a wonderful day on the river in New Braunfels! We were exhausted after a day playing on the Comal River, and I couldn’t wait to relax under the stars and watch a movie!
Thanks to Stars and Stripes Drive In for inviting us out to visit during our recent stay in New Braunfels, and providing admission for myself and my family. I was not financially compensated for this post and all opinions are, as always, my own, plus my kids!
I’m a huge Drive In Movie fan! Drive In Movie Theaters are my favorite way to watch a movie! And I love summer evenings, after the sun goes down and the moon is just lifting above the horizon, offering a sky full of stars! The wind begins to pick up, giving a nice breeze to the evening and it’s just my favorite time of the year!
The Stars and Stripes Drive In is located just a few minutes from the River Attractions in New Braunfels!
Years of going to the Drive In have taught me a few things, and for me, I’m a big believer that the Drive In isn’t just a movie, it’s an entire experience! I always get there early to get a great parking space, plus there are usually no lines at the concession area!
Arriving early means bringing things for the kids to do, so I always pack a football, some bubbles and maybe even a game!
I usually bring some type of shade to hang out under until the sun goes down, but my car could only hold so much for our trip, and it didn’t make the final cut. It’s nice to bring while waiting for the sun to go down!
For the best time, do not plan to sit in your car, unless you have a cool convertible! Everyone around us had a truck with an air mattress in the bed and tons of pillows! We brought our camp type chairs and our new Air Couch which everyone fought over! We ended up taking turns, and it’s really a great way to watch a movie!
At the concession area, there is a fun playground and shaded picnic tables!
After the sun goes down, this area is lit up!
The concession area was big, clean and had a great assortment of food! While I was taking pictures, I sent my 18-year-old up to get some food and drinks with my credit card, and he came back with everything except the popcorn!
I love these cute little cars that their kids meals come in!
While thanks to my son, we ate a little of everything at the concession stand, one of the things I love about the Stars and Stripes is that unlike most Drive Ins, they allow you to bring in an ice chest filled with drinks (no alcohol or glass) and munchies! Keep in mind that they make very little from the sale of tickets, so hit up that concession stand, too!
Know Before You Go
Arrive early to get good parking.
Outside food and drinks are allowed, alcohol and glass are not.
Your tailgate cannot exceed the top of your car, so bring something to tie it down, if necessary.
Well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome! PLEASE pick up after them!
Bring a radio and speaker. You can’t sit with your car idleing, and you’re going to have a dead battery after 2 hours. It’s just easier with a radio. Raise your hood and they will come give you a jump, but in my experience, the battery always dies at the climactic ending, leaving you wondering what happened!
