Pace Bend Park on Lake Travis, Spicewood

On the shores of Lake Travis lies one of the prettiest parks in Texas, Pace Bend Park in Spicewood.  With 9 miles of shoreline, offering both great cliffs and rocky beaches on this peninsula created by the Colorado River, there is something for every type of water enthusiast!  The interior of the park has hiking and mountain bike trails, making it a perfect destination all year long.  There are 20 reservable improved campsites but the draw here is the primitive campsites all along the park!  At only $10/vehicle for a parking permit, it’s a great destination!

Cliff Diving at Pace Bend Park near Austin

My daughter and I were in Austin for a tennis tournament, and she wanted to stay at Pace Bend Park to jump off the cliffs, one of the biggest attractions at the park!  The limestone cliffs and cool, blue-green water are heaven on a warm spring day!  I recommend water shoes, as you do have to climb back up the cliff after you jump.

Use caution before cliff jumping and always access the area before jumping!

A view of the natural springs seeping into the lake!  The water along these springs is cold!

Pace Bend Park is also a great place to bring your boat, with 2 boat ramps in the park.  From the park, you’re a short boat ride up or down river.  Up river from Pace Bend Park is the mouth of the Pedernales River, too.

The end of the peninsula is not part of the park.  Camp Highlands, a private Baptist Camp is on one side, and Texlake, a Girl Scout Camp in on the other!

We spotted a few wild turkeys along the shore!

While the park does get busy on spring and summer weekends, it’s big enough that it’s not hard to find a few great spots to just hang out!

It’s easy to see why we love it!

Primitive campsites are on a first-come basis, but there are over 400.

Things To Do in Spicewood

Eat

It’s All Good BBQ is just down Hwy 71, and we loved it!  I had the sausage, my husband had the giant beef short rib and we all ate some chopped beef brisket!  In our defense, breakfast was a bag of mini-muffins out on the boat!  Click HERE to visit their website.
