New Orleans may be a long way from Kansas, but the Ruby Slipper, inspired by Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, offers a magical breakfast without the witches or flying monkeys! New Orleans is a eater’s paradise, especially when you know where to go eat. There are a few places that the food is as famous as the town itself, and a few hidden delights that you can only find with a little searching. In New Orleans, you don’t need to consult google or Tripadvisor, or even me, just look for the lines. If there are lines, the food is good! You’ll almost always find a line outside of The Ruby Slipper!
We’re spending a week in the Big Easy, and after the mandatory breakfast at Café Du Mond, the next couple of days we ate at the Ruby Slipper on Magazine, just a quick walk from our hotel, the Hilton Riverside. Breakfast each morning was a culinary adventure, and I loved everything I ate, although the Eggs Blackstone was my husband’s favorite, and I loved my order of Shrimp and Grits and Shrimp Boogaloo Benedict, because IF you are lucky enough to get to eat shrimp for breakfast, you should do it!

My kids favorites hands-down was the French toast and pancakes, and raced to the restaurant each morning to find out what was the pancake of the day.
Like everything in New Orleans, it’s easier to walk to then drive, but we were heading out to a Swamp Tour one morning, and actually found parking along the street.
There are 9 different Ruby Slipper locations.

When you’re traveling with kids in the Big Easy, it’s harder to find something to do after dark, but we loved the Fulton Alley Bowling Alley! It was very family friendly, and we all had a great time! Click HERE to read more.
We loved the Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 tour! It’s a beautiful cemetery, with more living people than those buried touring it! Click HERE to read more.
