There are SO many fun things to do in Belton, and we ended our Labor Day Weekend at Chalk Ridge Falls! Chalk Ridge Falls is a FREE park just below the Stillhouse Hollow Dam. While you can access the Lampasas River from the park, the short little trail, about a mile long, will take you to Chalk Ridge Falls, a nice little waterfall and swimming hole, perfect to cool off or sit back and read a book to the sound of the water!
It’s dog friendly, too! The trail is an easy walk, and there was a lot of parking. As an educational area, many schools have field trips here as well, and there is even bus parking!
Some nice steps make it easy to get down, too!
And suddenly, WOW! You’re in this little piece of paradise! The water isn’t crazy cold, but it’s nice and clear! On the day we visited, there were people all over enjoying the water, above and below the falls! Above, it’s really shallow and there were lots of kids playing, and below it’s a little deeper, great for a cool swim!
My monkey just wanted to climb up and down the falls!
We visited later in the day, when the shadows of the trees completely shaded the falls! I want to go back for pictures in the morning, when the light is better. I’m thinking of having my son have his senior pictures here. He can stand just above in the falls in the shallow water in his suit, with his pants legs barely rolled up!
We followed the trail around the falls to the top, since our older labrador couldn’t climb up the falls! Here the water was nice and shallow, perfect for playing! To get there, we had to cross this amazing suspension bridge! It swayed as you walked, and the kids played Indiana Jones as they ran across!
A parting shot of the creek above the falls!
Know Before You Go
Water shoes! The one thing that would have made our entire time at the different water spots around Belton better was if I had just grabbed our yellow bag of water shoes! It was even sitting by the front door!
I didn’t see any restrooms.
Remember to pack in what you pack out. Bring a little trash bag with you!
