Built in an old rock quarry, the Japanese Tea Gardens are one of the hidden jewels of San Antonio, and as I say so many times, if you never get beyond the Riverwalk or theme parks, you’re missing so much that this beautiful city has to offer!
The Gardens are FREE, and open year-round. While there is never a bad time to visit, Summer is my favorite!
This is the entrance to the Japanese Tea Gardens. If you’ll notice, the sign above their head reads, “Chinese Tea Gardens”. Click HERE to read why the name was changed, and some of the history of the gardens!
You’ll see so many amazing creatures and colorful flowers!
But this is the view you came to see!
Huge Koi fish live in the water!
The Gardens are often crowded, especially on weekends. A favorite destination for photographers, you’ll see brides and quinceaneras posing for pictures. The Gardens can also be rented for weddings and special events! Most photo sessions take place during the “Golden Hours”, usually 7am and again at 7pm during the summer, when the lighting is optimal.
There are trails that take you all around the gardens!
We climbed the steps up to the falls! There are trails that will take you up above the falls, too!
