McGovern Centennial Gardens, Houston
Located in Hermann Park, the McGovern Centennial Gardens are a captivating place to visit while in Houston’s Museum District.
Know Before You Go
Parking is FREE, and limited to 3 hours.
Restrooms are available.
Stay off the grass, and do not pick the flowers.
Leashed dogs are allowed. Always pick up after your pooch!
There are no picnic tables. The closest picnic tables are WAY over by the lake. We had planned to picnic here, since it is SO close to the Children’s Museum of Houston. Rather than drive or walk, we set up a “tail-gate” picnic in the parking lot, which may not have been the most picturesque place to eat, but it was convenient. The plus was that there were plenty of trash cans!
The highlight of the Gardens for my kids was the climb up the Mount, which has water rushing down and a lovely view of Houston!
We ran for cover during a brief shower to the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion, but the kids didn’t mind the light rain and were soon running through it along the walkways!
The McGovern Centennial Gardens are made up of 9 different and distinct gardens, and eventually we we exploring each of them in the misting rain!
