Big Bear Creek Greenbelt Hike and Bike Trail, Keller

Big Bear Creek Greenbelt Hike and Bike Trail is a lovely and scenic trail that winds along Bear Creek through Keller for a little over 5 miles.  Lovely parks, bridges and even some surprising art pieces accentuate the trail, making it a great place for families to walk, ride scooters and ride bikes!

The entire trail is a 2-lane concrete trail.

Trailhead at Keller Sports Complex

There was plenty of parking at this large sports park.  My kids enjoyed playing on the playground before we started our ride!  There are soccer, baseball and football fields, as well as picnic tables with grills, 2 sand volleyball courts, and a lighted fishing pier.

Hopefully, the park will put up a marker designating the trailhead, we had to ride around quite a bit until we found it.

The park is also serves as the trailhead for the equestrian trail.

Bear Creek

The greenbelt follows Bear Creek as it winds through Keller.  The trail crosses the creek numerous times with picturesque bridges all along the trail.

Bear Creek Park

The trail led us through Bear Creek Park, which is closed until Summer, 2016.  Since there were plenty of people walking, riding and running through the park, we went ahead and rode through, too.  We loved all the birds we saw, including a large flock of Canadian Geese.

The trail is marked with some signs, but it’s a good idea to mark the trail on your phone, too.

Art on the Trail

There were 3 unique art installations along the trail, each appeared to be unrecognizable until you stood on a platform and looked through an eye-piece, with one eye closed!  Sounds silly, but it was really surprising what we saw!

Games

There were also a few games on the trail.  Plenty of opportunities to stop and catch your breath.

February in Texas is a beautiful time, as Spring is poking it’s head out from under the covers of winter!  We spotted several Red Buds blooming along the trail!

Safety on the Trail

There are several mirrors posted along the trail, to help you see around the corners.

Keller Town Center

The trail runs past the Keller Town Hall and ends at the Keller Town Center, which has plenty of yummy restaurants where you can rest and grab a bite to eat, before heading back!
