Know Before You Go
Tickets sell out, so purchase in advance.
Restrooms are available in the Depot.
Well-behaved pets are allowed on the train.
Train Depot
The Robert E. Lee Steam Locomotive is over 50 years old, and a reproduction of the 1870 American Class Steam Locomotive.
The train offers First Class and Coach Seating, with a $5 difference per ticket. Although First Class is enclosed, I prefer the open seating of Coach, just dress warmly on chilly evenings.
The Great Train Chase and Naval Battle of Port Jefferson
The train takes you through the forest and past the Naval Battle, with cannons, soldiers and horses fighting. They stop so you can watch the battle!
The woods are full of costumed reenactors, and there were even some on the train with us. It was impossible to get them to come out of character!
