My daughter just returned from an amazing trip of white water rafting on the Arkansas River in Colorado! She went with Girl Scouts on a High Adventure trip, and I was incredibly proud of her for earning the money, both by selling Girl Scout cookies, and by babysitting.
She has been canoeing and kayaking since she was a little girl, so I really wasn’t worried about her. Still, Colorado is a long way away….
Naturally, she and all the girls had an amazing time, made lots of new friends, and came home a little more independent and self confident, which is just what I hoped!
She loved the beautiful Arkansas River, although she said she was cold! They camped right on the water’s edge, and one morning they awoke to see a young black bear across the river!
That’s her in the front of the boat, with the orange life jacket. She stayed in the boat, although a few of the girls did fall out, but were quickly pulled back inside! Each raft had 2 guides with the girls. Of course, she told me later that she really wanted to “accidentally” go swimming! No surprise to me, she loves to flip her kayak, and I think I’ve seen gills on that girl!
