It’s grape harvest season in Texas, which means grape stomps and festivals! At grape stomps, you’re not actually stomping the grapes to make wine, but just enough to experience the feel of it and stamp a shirt or bag with your purple feet!
We’ve attended many grape stomps at Lost Oak Winery in Burleson of their 17 annual stomps, and it’s always a fun evening! Each year the festival gets bigger and better!
Tickets are required to stomp the grapes, and they always sell out every year. However, if you’re not planning to stomp you don’t need a ticket. It’s an outdoor event, but they have plenty of shade to bring your chair, sit around and enjoy the live music and fun atmosphere. They also have food trucks and of course sell wine and other drinks.

The event started at 6pm, and we arrived about 6:30 to find the lots of people scattered around the shaded lawn. We really enjoyed the band, which we had also heard at Mayfest. About 7:30 they started the Lucy lookalike contest, from the I Love Lucy episode where she stomps grapes. These contest are fairly common at all the wine festivals we’ve been to. This year I decided to dress up, and while I didn’t win, it was really a lot of fun!

I had picked 8pm for our timed stomping ticket, hoping it would be a little cooler. We had a nice breeze and even in a long skirt and long sleeve shirt (my Lucy costume) I was comfortable. We were given a basket, snippers and a bag. The grapes are growing on the vines, and we only needed to cut a few bunches to stomp. We each took turns putting our grapes in the barrel and stomping them! Then we stamped our bags with our feet and hung them up to dry. Something I’ve learned over the years is to apply lotion to your feet before stomping to keep them from staining!

Afterwards we returned to our seats to enjoy the band and the rest of the evening! It was a lovely evening!
Keep Having Fun in the Texas Sun!
