We’re in Houston tonight for work and checking on our farm house, which has been without power since Hurricane Beryl earlier this month while we were in Utah. We’d hoped to be back earlier, but a huge tree was down on our lines and work ran over which necessitated an overnight stay in H-Town.
The Pirates are in town playing the Astros, and while I drove in to Downtown, John went on my Ballpark app to get tickets. I love that app, and you have to have it to show your tickets at the gate. It’s great for buying both new and resale tickets, transferring tickets to someone else who might be meeting you at the game and even reselling tickets you can’t use.
I know Houston traffic can be brutal, but it’s so easy getting to Minute Maid Park! We found $40 parking at Jackson and Franklin, just a short walk to the Centerfield entrance.
Minute Maid allows small bags, so I took my fanny pack in with me, and it’s small enough that they didn’t pull us over to check it.
We had a few minutes to kill before first pitch, so we walked around and picked up some dollar hot dogs before heading to our seats. I’ll never let John pick seats again! They were in 155, right field. The last row next to a column! The overhang really limits your view of the scoreboard from back there, too! But I was still happy to be at a game wearing orange and blue! Well, I was until Pittsburgh started filling up the runs column!
Needing a change of scenery, we walked around a bit more, and the gift shop. After years of never getting our youngest to go to baseball games with us, he’s finally started to enjoy them at 16, and I wanted to find him an Astros shirt. The Astros really have a much larger selection of shirts and hats than the Rangers, and some really colorful ones!
We grabs some drinks and ultimate nachos from Taqueria Arandas near our seats, which were great except we didn’t get any jalapeños and didn’t notice until we had already sat back down. While I’ve still yet to try the new pickle dog at the stadium, I am going to go out on a limb and say I like the food options at Globe Life a little more.
Back to that pesky score. It wasn’t looking too good for the Astros. We were heading into the bottom of the ninth with the Pirates leading 6-2. With two outs, an overturned call gave us two runners and Altuve up to bat. It was pretty exciting but ultimately a loss for the Astros as he struck out.
A very quick walk to the car and 10 minutes later we were on 69 headed to the Woodlands for the night.
Keep Having Fun in the Texas Sun!
