McKinney Falls State Park is loved not only for their excellent hike and bike trails, but also their incredible falls on Onion Creek! It’s a wonderful place to spend the day or weekend, with tent/RV camping sites and cabins, right in Austin!

Know Before You Go
Located just minutes from Congress Ave., McKinney Falls is usually very busy. Make camping and day use reservations in advance, but the park does have Day Use Walk Up availability, too.

At just under 3 miles, the hard surface Onion Creek Hike and Bike Trail along Onion Creek is a fun way to see the park!

Jumping from the Falls is a favorite for both kids and adults!

The Upper Falls
Accessible off the Onion Creek Trail, the limestone overhang makes a terrific place to lay out on a warm day, relax to the sound of the falls, swim or explore!
Here’s a tip: Like most of the waterways in Texas, they can be slippery when wet. Pick up some cheap water shoes at Walmart, etc. before you go!

The Lower Falls
Swim, relax, read or just wander about the Lower Falls!

Natural holes in the rock allow water to rush through, making dramatic falls like this!
Things To Do in Austin
Play
Take a FREE tour of the Texas State Capitol! Pack a lunch for a picnic on the beautiful State Capitol grounds!
Another of our favorite places to hike or bike in Texas, the Ladybird Lake Hike and Bike Trail runs a 10-mile loop around the lake!
Barton Springs Pool is a summer must-do! The spring-fed swimming pool, part of Barton Springs, is a constant 68-72 degrees, and a part of Austin life since the 1920’s.
Eat
After a day hiking, it’s nice to have a go-to place to eat with great food! My kids love Home Slice Pizza on South Congress, and I love everything about South Congress! Click HERE to visit their website.
