The Best Texas Gulf Coast Shrimp Restaurants

Like Bubba in Forest Gump, I love shrimp and the myriad of ways to eat it! I absolutely believe that one of the best tips for a happy life is to eat more shrimp. If you can do it while there’s sand in your toes, that’s even better. I really believe there’s nothing better than fresh Gulf Shrimp, wild caught and sustainable. Here’s some of my favorite shrimp restaurants for Gulf Coast Shrimp. And here’s a tip, if you’re ever ordering shrimp at a restaurant, ask where it’s from. If they can’t tell you, get the chicken.

Top Water Grill, San Leon I absolutely love this unpretentious seafood restaurant on Galveston Bay, and recommend it all the time! They’ve been serving locals in the area since 1999. Almost all tables have water view, or you can sit outside in the swinging tables! In addition to their Gulf Shrimp, they also serve the jewel of Gulf Coast shrimp, Royal Reds! These deep-sea livin’ shrimp taste more like lobster, and are best served with butter for dipping.

Pier 19, Corpus Christi Serving up fresh Gulf Seafood in 1991 on Corpus Christi bay, it’s a bit of a tourist destination, but the shrimp is always delicious!

Shrimp ‘n’ Stuff, Galveston Once upon a time, you only spotted Galveston locals in this out-of-the-way shrimp restaurant, but in the past decade you’ll find more visitors to Galveston lined up for a plate of fried shimp. Being named Best Seafood in Galveston County certainly didn’t help to keep them a secret, either. They’ve been doing it right since 1976, and it shows!

Shark Shack Bar and Grill, Galveston A newer restaurant on the Galveston Strand, it’s my new go-to when on the island for crab cakes, but the shrimp is just delicious, too!

Gilhooley’s, San Leon This only over 18 oyster bar has amazing, fresh seafood in a very casual restaurant on Galveston Bay!

Fin’s Grill and Ice House, Port Aransas While there are several great seafood restaurants on the island, I love the water front seating and shrimp tacos at Fin’s!

Sea Ranch, South Padre Island A favorite when on the island, Sea Ranch offers fresh caught Gulf Shrimp and seafood. While I rarely pass up their red snapper served cubano, I always steal a few shrimp from my kids plate!

Stingaree, Crystal Beach A favorite of locals on Bolivar Peninsula for over 30 years, you just can’t beat an evening watching the water while dining on fresh shrimp. You almost promised to see a ship pass by with dolphins jumping in it’s wake, too! Their honey-jalapeno shrimp on the Shrimp Lovers Platter is a winner every time (but I also have to have their Vieno Fried Blue Crabs)!
