Where the prairies of North Texas meet the tall pines of East Texas, Lake Tawakoni State Park is a haven for those seeking a little peace and quiet.

Know Before You Go
There is a Walmart Supercenter in Quinlan.

Camping
The park offers about 75 RV and tent campsites throughout the park. Each campsite has a tent pad, table and fire ring.
There is also a group primitive campsite near the swim beach.

Spring Point Trail
There are several trails at LTSP, but this is our favorite, as it run along the lake with great places to wander along the shore of the lake!
Bring Your Bikes! There are 5 miles of trails around the lake for hiking or off-road bikes.

Spiders
In 2007, a giant spider web was found in the trees, made by thousands of little spiders. It’s very cool, and they have pictures of the web, one of the largest ever recorded, but we didn’t notice any spiders during our visit.
However, my kids loved searching for the small Argentine Ants that can be found in the park. They are an invasive species, so they are not native to the park, and they don’t sting. They kill the native insects, and can be found under logs in moist soil. The Argentine Ants are common in California and Louisiana, but only found in a few counties in Texas. They are very destructive to fruit orchards, and another great reason to never transport fire wood.

Fishing
Lake Tawakoni is a terrific fishing lake. Fishing from the pier or along the shore is allowed, even without a fishing license. The park office will loan you fishing equipment, also.
Eaglefest
With tall trees and plenty of fish, Lake Tawakoni is known as a winter refuge for bald eagles. We spent the weekend searching the skies during Eaglefest in nearby Emory, which offers both bus and barge tours of Lake Fork and Lake Tawakoni during the annual festival!
This annual festival is usually held the last weekend in January. Click HERE to read more about it.
