My son’s favorite thing to do in Orange Beach, aside from playing on the beach, is the Hummingbird Zipline Course. And he’s a little picky when it comes to zip lining, because he’s done it around the state and across the country! But the ziplines at Hummingbird are really tall, 11 stories tall, and pretty fast! If you’re looking for a fun activity for your adventure loving family, it’s definitely something to try!

Hummingbird Zip Lines is located near popular Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in Alabama Gulf Coast. The zip lines are in The Wharf, a large shopping destination with a movie theater and ferris wheel. It’ right off the Canal, near some of the best restaurants, too.

On this adventure, my 12-year-old went by himself, but the guides were great and took really good care of him! It was so much fun to him him yelling as he went over!
The zip lines consist of 8 separate lines, and reach up to 30 mph. You do have to climb quite a few stairs.

Remember to bring some cash to tip your guides, too. While you’ll find all suggestions for how much you should tip online, I like to keep it easy and tip 15 – 20%, based on how friendly and helpful they are!

Know Before You Go
Make your reservations in advance, time slots fill up quickly. During the Summer, make your reservation early in the day.
Wear closed-toed shoes and longer shorts for the straps.
Arrive early enough to run upstairs to the restroom before you check in.
Stay hydrated! Be sure you drink plenty of water on the day you visit. They do have water stations along the course.
Things To Do in Orange Beach
Play
These 3 public beaches in Orange Beach are all overseen by and part of Gulf State Park. Just a heads up, there are no dog friendly beaches in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores. You’ll need to visit Fort Morgan Beach, Pensacola’s Dog Beach or Daulphin Island or the Fort Morgan Beach.
Adventure Island The highlight of this arcade is the 5-story volcano that erupts in a rumbling cloud of steam! There is miniature golf, go carts, paddle boats, laser tag and much more!
Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail There are four entrances to the 15 mile trail in Orange Beach, where you can see deer, bobcats, coastal birds and even alligators! A great hike to the Butterfly Gardens or the Boulder Park!
Eat
GT’s on the Bay I really love the view and feel of the restaurants and things to do along Canal Rd., every bit as much as I do the beach. Still touristy, GT’s has a unique menu with more of a cajun feel, thanks to executive chef Jason Navarro from of New Orleans. Their Sunday brunch buffet is wonderful! I love their parmesan grits and the Rib Eye with garlic worcestershire butter, which I tried at home to duplicate but couldn’t! There’s fun play area for kids, fish feeding and we saw dolphins while sitting outside.
Stay
Hotel Indigo We most recently stayed at Hotel Indigo, and while it’s across Perdido Beach Blvd, and not on the beach, we really enjoyed it! They had a great pool, a shuttle that takes you to the Gulf State Park Pavilion Beach, restaurant, indoor and outdoor pool and of course, it’s so dog friendly! Just a heads up, though, there are NO dog friendly beaches in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores. You’ll need to visit Pensacola’s Dog Beach, Daulphin Island or the Fort Morgan Beach.
