Sandy Beach Park at Possum Kingdom Lake,

It’s Covid-Summer, and while that means that many of our favorite places are closed, there are still plenty of places to get outside and socially distance, still while having fun! Possum Kingdom Lake in North Texas is well known for their clear blue waters and amazing cliffs, but one of the favorite locals frequent is Sandy Beach, one of 6 Brazos River Authority Park on the lake.

Historically busy on the weekends during the Summer, even when there is a fee, the BRA Sandy Beach is now only open for day use, with no overnight camping, but admission is FREE!

Unlike the rocky beach found elsewhere on the lake, Sandy Beach has soft sand and with the waves from passing boats, it’s easy to forget you’re not in the Gulf. Well, maybe not that easy. But it is a definite place to check out if you are visiting the lake!

There are covered picnic tables along the shore, and a roped-off swim area. Please use life jackets for younger children and weak swimmers, as there are no lifeguards.

A fun playground makes for a great Summer day!

Know Before You Go

We most recently visited on a Friday afternoon, and the park was almost empty. But weekends are very, very busy so arrive early.

There are restrooms in the park.

Bring water shoes and watch out for stickers in the grass!

The PK Hike and Bike Trail

Eat

We love the burgers at Burgers and Billiards in Graham, which also has a drive thru. The fried catfish at Boondocks Bar and Grill is pretty amazing!
