Johnson City has so much to do nearby, so you need a place to refuel and relax afterwards! We spent a great afternoon relaxing in the Biergarten at Pecan Street Brewing, but they also offer live music in the evenings, along with craft beer brewed on site and a terrific menu!
The restaurant offers very good southern dishes, and brick oven pizzas. We all shared, and everyone agreed the chicken fried steak was wonderful, even our dog, who was slipped a very small bite when no one was looking! Johnson City is also home to the Hill Country Cupboard, which proudly boast their World’s Best chicken fried steak has been sold over 3 dozen times, so it takes a brave restaurant to step up to the bar on that one.
All of their beer is brewed on site. My husband really enjoyed the Screw Loose Blonde.
After dinner I was done, but they still had room for dessert, sharing the Mexican Chocolate Cake and Signature Pecan Pie Bar.
We then took a little walk around the Historic Square. This is the 1916 Blanco County Courthouse. The old Blanco County Courthouse is still in Blanco, but the county seat was moved to Johnson City in 1890. There were a few shops around the square, also. We were there for dinner, so most of the shops were closed.
Pecan Street Brewery sits right next door to the 1894 Blanco County Jail, which is why many of their beers have a theme to their name, such as the 1897 Jailbreak IPA and the Crime and Punishment Stout. The former references an actual event at the jail.
