Prairie Lights Sneak A Peek 5K

Prairie Lights Sneak a Peek 5K

Driving through the amazing lights at Prairie Lights has been a family tradition since my kids were very small.  I can remember when it was originally at the Johnson and Johnson Facility off I-20, and they had hay wagons to take you through the park.  That only last a year or two, and for years it’s been located at Loyd Park in Grand Prairie.  We love to fill up our car with friends, blankets and a thermos of hot chocolate and spend the evening looking at the lights!

About 6 years ago, we started attending the annual Prairie Lights Sneak A Peek 5K, and we added it to our family tradition as well!  While the race has grown in size, it’s still a fun way to see all the lights and enjoy time with our friends!

Honestly, one of the best things about it is just being with friends!

Registration usually begins in October, and we like to take advantage of the group pricing, so we always make sure to have a crowd going!

Everyone’s favorite, the tunnel of lights!

Before the race, you can keep warm in the tent with hot chocolate!  One of the fun things about this race is you never know the weather in November!  We’ve been freezing, sweating, wet and had just perfect nights!  But we’ve loved all of them!

Prairie Lights doesn’t officially open until Thanksgiving Day,
and runs thru New Year’s Eve.  Santa, the Holiday Magic Lighted Forest and the rides aren’t open during the Sneak A Peek 5K.
All traffic is also stopped, so you can’t leave until the last runners are back.
Dogs are welcome at the Sneak A Peek 5K!
For 2018, the Grand Prairie major had a bike ride through Prairie Lights the day after the race.  We weren’t able to attend, but my friend Holley and her family did and absolutely loved it!
