The Historic Town of Deadwood, South Dakota

On our Family Road Trip to South Dakota, one of the most surprising and delightful places we visited was Deadwood.  I had planned to just stay about a half day for lunch and a look around, and we ended up staying for 2 days!  It’s really such a cute and historic little town and we loved it!

From the brick-paved road and historic 1870’s architecture, we enjoyed visiting many of the stores and eateries in town!

Set against the Black Hills, it’s really just a beautiful town to visit!

One of the things about all of South Dakota is that motorcycles are a huge thing!  In Texas, we always see tons of riders out on pretty days, but nothing like during the Summer in South Dakota, when thousands of riders are out on the roads!  In all the little towns, there were numerous bike shops!  Of course, Sturgis is just one town away, and while the huge Summer rally was still a couple of weeks away, people were getting ready!  We did visit Sturgis, just long enough to grab my husband a shirt, and headed back to Deadwood, where there was a lot more to see and do.  The rides through the Black Hills are legendary, but with so much traffic, please always be on the look out for motorcycles!
