A Deep Ellum Guide for Families, Dallas

East of Downtown Dallas is the historic neighborhood of Deep Ellum, which is renown for its bars and live music venues which draw crowds at night on weekends, but it also has a thriving foundation of shops and restaurants open during the day, and makes a fun destination for both locals and families visiting Dallas!

Monkey King Noodle Company, 2933 Main Street   We would drive to Carrollton just for their Spicy Garlic Peanut Noodles, but now they have relocated to Deep Ellum with a better location and hours!

Twisted Root Burger Company, 2615 Commerce St.

While now a local chain restaurant in suburbs of Dallas, this is the original and by far the best!  Grab a burger, or choose one of their daily exotic meats, such as elk, bison, or ostrich, just to name a few.  My son, a root-beer connoisseur, says it’s actually a root beer restaurant which serves burgers, and they do make their own root beer, with unique flavors such as banana and vanilla.  They also have a great selection of pickles and custard shakes! The biggest draw to Deep Ellum for families is Pecan Lodge!  We love their BBQ, which many say is one of the best in the state!  Like any good BBQ restaurant, they open about 11am, with a line already formed, and close then they run out!  Try the Beef Rib, it’s incredible!  Click HERE to read more.

Uncle Uber’s Sammich Shop, 2713 Commerce

This is your place for the best sandwich in Dallas! I love the Cuban.  Click HERE to visit their website.

Allgood Café, 2934 Main St.,

Come for breakfast or brunch on the weekends and try some of their fluffy pancakes, chicken fried steak or borracho biscuit.  Click HERE to read their menu.

Things To Do

Murals and Art!

We love the murals and one of our favorite thing is to just walk around in Deep Ellum looking for them!  There are over 20 murals, and tons of public art in the area, including the Deep Ellum Art Park.

Head over to Braindead Brewing to see the robot-y guy out front!

You’ll also want to get a selfie with the Deep Ellum BIG sign, at Main St. and Malcolm X Blvd.!
