Schilo’s Delicatessen, San Antonio

While San Antonio is known for their famous Mexican Food, it pays to remember that it’s just a 30 minute drive from the Riverwalk to New Braunfels, a town as famous for their German food as it is it’s chilly rivers!

Schilo’s Delicatessen is an easy reminder!  This incredible German Delicatessen has been open since 1917. making it the oldest restaurant in San Antonio!  The food is fantastic, and located just above Casa Rio on the famed Riverwalk, it’s easy to find, too!

From the Riverwalk, you’ll need to walk up the steps to Commerce Street to enter Schilo’s!

It’s awkward to take pictures in busy places like this, but I sucked it up and did because I love this place, and you guys for reading this!  They are open for breakfast every morning at 7:30am, and serve lunch and dinner (Dinner is Thursday – Saturday).

They are known for their homemade root beer!

Order a pitcher, which comes with full mugs and a full pitcher!  It’s delicious!

Just choosing our food was rough!  Everything sounded great!  I ordered the Potato Pancakes with apple sauce and sour cream, and they were amazing!

My husband, always difficult, ordered a weinerschnitzel with home fries and a runny egg on top, not on the menu but they were happy to accommodate him!  It was fantastic!

After walking to our restaurant from the Hotel Indigo, I was starving, and we were almost finished when I realized I hasn’t gotten a picture of anything!  I’m really bad about that!  Sorry!

My daughter ordered the Cheese Danish, and it looked just like the picture!  All their baked goods come from the AMAZING Cafe Lorraine!

While we waited on our food, I looked around and this is the view from their adjacent balcony.  You can’t dine here, or really can’t even see it from the dining area, you have to walk through Casa Rio’s special event space, but it was nice to stand out here and watch the river until our food was ready!
