Water Gardens, Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Water Gardens has been a tourist destination since opening in 1974!  Millions of visitors to Cowtown each year come to enjoy the solitude of the gardens, and the rush of the water at the Active Pool!  Situated in Downtown Fort Worth, it’s just steps away from Main Street, with some of the city’s best in hotels, dining and history!

Know Before You Go

Entrance to the Water Gardens is FREE.

Parking is available along the street at meters, and at several Pay Parking Lots.

The biggest attraction at the Water Gardens is the HUGE waterfall at the Active Pool, you can walk down to for pictures.

In 2004, a tragic accident occurred when 4 members of the same family drown in the center pool after a girl fell in and the remaining family members attempted to save her.  Following the deaths, the gardens were closed and the entire feature was re-engineered at a cost of $3 million dollars, and reducing the depth of the pool from 9′ to 2′, to make sure something like that never happens again.

Whether the city says it’s safe or not, you have to use your own discretion when visiting the Water Gardens.  Here are a few tips:

Only wear shoes with good traction, take off flip flops and sandals.

Avoid going to bottom when it is extremely busy, especially if there are other children down there running and playing.

Watch little children and advise them to stay on the side away from the big pool when passing someone on the steps.

Avoid going down during rain, or anytime the steps would be unusually wet.

The Aerating Pool is especially beautiful at night, when it is lit up with different colors!

Enjoy the sound of the water cascading down the wall at the Quiet Water Pool.  Under the shade of the many cypress trees is the perfect place for a picnic!

The sunken gardens are surrounded by the man-made Mountain, which kids love to climb up and down!
