My daughter had a basketball tournament in Desoto today, and it seemed a perfect opportunity to take the kids to a real soda fountain and ice cream shop in Duncanville at the Benjamin Franklin Apothecary!
The Ben Franklin Apothecary has been at the same location for over 50 years. It has even been awarded the Texas Treasure Business Award by the Texas Historical Commission.
Naturally, they serve Blue Bell ice cream! You can get it on a cone, floats, shakes, malts and even banana splits in authentic banana boats! Love it!
The walls are filled with memorabilia and old record albums. We listened to songs from the 1950’s and 60’s. I was surprised my kids had never heard Otis Redding sing, “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”.
You can also order sandwiches, and even pies and cobblers!
When we finished, we crossed Main Street to get a few pictures of this old train car. I love all the colorful graffiti!
