The Galaxy Drive In Theatre, Ennis

I LOVE Drive In Theaters!  They are, in my opinion, the epitome of Family Friendly entertainment!  They have also been, for almost 15 years, about the only way I can see a movie!  I don’t know why, but Cinemark and AMC won’t allow you to strap your baby in their car seat during the movie!

We made the drive out to The Galaxy Drive In in Ennis to fill my movie watching needs tonight, and I’ve got some great Mommy Tips to help you make the most of your visit!

1.   Number One Reason to visit the Galaxy Drive In is pictured right here!

Yep, the Galaxy is the ONLY Drive In I know that still has old fashioned metal speaker boxes to attach to your car window!  Of course, you can also use your car stereo, but I love that one day my kids will see a picture of this in a history book, and know what it is!

My husband purchased one of the big wireless speakers from Sams (I think), and we take it with us to the drive in so we can hear while sitting outside of our car!

2.  Know Before You Go

The Galaxy is open 365 days a year, and does not close for rain!

No outside food or drinks are allowed.

Bring camping chairs to sit outside your car during the movie.

No RV’s or trailers are allowed, which is a bummer because we often have our boat on the back while traveling up and down I-45, and have often thought about stopping.  Isn’t that what the back row is for? (It’s a joke, I was young once, I know what the back row at the Drive In is for…)

3.  The Movies

Usually, the movies we go see are family friendly.  However, we went to watch Unbreakable, which was a terrific movie but not at all appropriate for my 7-year-old!  We were able to set he and his sister up with a bunch of blankets and pillows, and a big bag of popcorn in the back of our suburban with a movie they wanted to watch on their portable DVD player!

4.   The Snackbar

There are 2 snack bars at the Galaxy, which offer traditional snack bar food like burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, etc.  They do take credit cards.

No outside food or drinks are allowed.  No, they don’t check your car, but it’s a nice idea to support their snack bar!

During slower days, only one of the two snack bars are open.

5.  Miniature Golf

During the summer, they have a miniature golf course open to the public!  In fact, you can play without purchasing a ticket to the movie!

It’s only open during daylight hours, and closes when the movies begin!

Arrive early enough to get a good parking spot, then walk out to play and return to your car to watch your movies!

Children under 3 play for FREE!
