Visit Kemah/Clear Lake Where To Play, Eat and Stay

A Texas Playground, Kemah is a great, laid-back community on Galveston Bay, minutes from NASA and the Space Center Houston! Enjoy the freshest seafood, warm, salty air and coastal vibe! Here’s some of my favorite things to see and do!

Space Center Houston The Houston NASA Visitor’s Center, Space Center Houston has great, hands-on exhibits for all ages, space exhibits including moon rocks and you can walk through a space shuttle! To me, the best part is the shuttle ride out to the see the rockets and a visit to the command center where they heard those infamous words, “Houston, we have a problem.”. Before your visit, go ahead and rewatch Apollo 13 or The Right Stuff as you’re sure to see those names repeated during your tour! Plan to spend a full day to really experience all there is to do!

My Mommy Tip: A Houston City-Pass will get you in both Space Center Houston and the Kemah Boardwalk!

Kemah Boardwalk

Kemah Boardwalk Leave your cares as you play on this fun, throw-back boardwalk with great restaurants, shops, and things to do! Tour the Aquarium and feed the stingrays at Stingray Reef, play the games and ride the rides, like the wooden roller coaster The Boardwalk Bullet, and don’t miss a spin out on the Boardwalk Beast. A Landry’s project, here’s a tip and be sure and get a Landry’s Club Membership for deals and I love collecting points when dining at their restaurants. Rock the Dock is their Summer live music series every Thursday night!

Kayak Shack, Kemah Explore Clear Lake on a kayak or paddleboard! Kayak Shack offers instruction for beginners and great trails to enjoy!

Kemah Jet Ski Rentals Play out in the bay or on Clear Lake on a jet ski!

Texas City Dike, Texas City This man-made dike stretches out over 5 miles into the ship channel, and is the longest man-made fishing pier in the world! It has some of the best fishing on the bay! It’s also a great place to see shore birds, or watch the ships coming up the channel. On a good day, you can watch as surfers go out to surf on the wakes of the big ships, too!

Top Golf, Webster There’s never a bad time at Top Golf!

San Jacinto Monument, La Porte A short drive to see where Texas won her independence in the final battle of the Texas Revolution!

Crocodile Encounter Worth the 40-minute drive from Kemah, this cool crocodile park is fun and educational!

Lone Star Flight Museum Tour the classic planes and flight simulator, or for a real rush, schedule a ride in a real warbird!

Eat

Tookies Burgers in Kemah

Tookies, Kemah My all-time favorite burgers! It’s really a must when in the area!

Flying Dutchman, Kemah Located on the Kemah Boardwalk and a Landry’s venue, this is my favorite restaurant on the Boardwalk! Great shrimp and a wonderful outdoor patio overlooking the water!

Gilhooley’s Oyster Bar, San Leon Eat with the locals at this old-school oyster bar for 21 and up!

Top Water Grill, San Leon Another favorite of mine, you can watch as the seafood is brought in off the boats!

Stay

Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake My go-to hotel because it’s always dependable and has great views of the bay!

Kemah Boardwalk Inn, Kemah Located right on the boardwalk, a cute boutique hotel, you can walk right out to the fun! Landry’s Club Members can receive 10% off on Landry’s hotels. It’s usually books up early during the Summer, so it’s always a real treat when we get to stay there. Be sure to book direct with the hotel to avoid unnecessary fees. I love their rooftop pool!
