Austin/Hill Country

Runs through January 31st. Fortlandia at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin Explore this unique collection of forts at the Texas Arboretum, and enjoy building your own, too!

San Antonio

Weekends through February 28th Mardi Gras Festival at Six Flags Fiesta Texas The sights, sounds and smells of New Orleans come alive at during these festive weekends!

Weekends through January 31st Wild Days at SeaWorld Check out the fun events happening at Sea World this Winter. SeaWorld is now open year round!

Friday, Saturday and Sundays through Jan. 31st Kayaking on the San Antonio River Walk We haven’t done this yet, but I really want to! Bring your own kayak or rent one there and get a completely different view of the famed San Antonio Riverwalk!

Nightly through February 14th Holiday Lights on the San Antonio Riverwalk The amazing holiday lights are staying up this year through Valentine’s Day!

February 19th Family Flashlight Night at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens Bring your flashlights to explore the park after dark, with fun activities for the whole family.

DFW/North Texas

My Pick! January 23rd and 30th The Penitentiary Hollow Wild Walk at Lake Mineral Wells State Park, Mineral Wells This is just one of my favorite guided hikes, and while you don’t actually hike very far, you get to explore some amazing spaces within the park, which are usually off limits to park guest! Bring gloves and a flashlight, and make your reservation early because they are limited due to Covid-19, and fill up fast! Afterwards, go see the restoration being done at the Baker Hotel, buy some Crazy Water or head out to the free Mineral Wells Fossil Park!

Weekends Now – February 28th All New Fire and Ice Festival at Six Flags Over Texas, Arlington In addition to the rides, enjoy sledding, smores and so much more at this new festival for 2021!

Now – January 31st $5 Admission at the Dallas Arboretum There’s still plenty to see during the winter at the Dallas Arboretum, and you can save money with their $5 per person admission. The Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden is closed until February 19th.

Now – February 28th Penguin Days at the Dallas Zoo Save some money with $8 per person admission to the Dallas Zoo.

Now – March 14th Queen Nefertari’s Egypt at the Kimball Museum, Fort Worth Step back to ancient Egypt at this Special Exhibit.

Now – February 15th Dinosaurs Live at the Heard Museum, McKinney The dinosaurs are back and roaring to meet you!


Now – May 31st Body Worlds and the Cycle of Life at the Houston Museum of Natural Science An outstanding collection giving insight into the workings of the human body as it ages! We visited as soon as they opened and still talk about it!

Waco/Central Texas

Ongoing The Waco Mammoth National Monument Open daily from 9am – 5pm and gives you a look at the unique circumstances which buried a family of mammoths during a flood, and the uncovered remains of the animals. Kids will love earning a Junior Ranger badge, too.

Feb. 22 Mayborn Museum Mini Monday Goes to Space, Waco Visitors 5 and under will love this fun, space-themed event. Free with Museum Admission.

Coastal Bend

Ongoing Harbor Bridge, Corpus Christi Take a walk across the Harbor Bridge before it is dismantled.

Texas Plains and Panhandle

Ongoing Lighthouse Trail, Palo Duro Canyon State Park Enjoy the cool weather and hike the 5 mile round-trip trail to the Lighthouse formation in Palo Duro Canyon, the second largest canyon in the United States!

West Texas

Ongoing Lajitas Stables, Terlingua, Big Bend Take a 1/2 day, overnight or 3-day horseback adventure through the beautiful and wild backcountry of Big Bend!

Clear Nights Marfa Lights, Marfa Lights Viewing Area, Alpine Take a chair and some snacks and head out 9 miles East of Marfa on U.S. 90 to watch the Marfa Lights. Go ahead and dress up like an alien, you might not be the only one! Bonus Points if you see Amtrack’s Sunset Limited as it passes just along the highway, lighting up the desert! It’s so cool you may just want to book a train trip!

South Texas/South Padre Island/The Valley

Feb. 5 Winter Beach Clean Up, South Padre Island Pre-registration is required for this annual beach clean up.
