15 Free Things to do in Arlington this Summer

We usually exhaust our summer funds by the 2nd week of June, and with 10 more weeks of summer ahead, we are looking for FREE things to do!  Here’s a great list of things to do for FREE in Arlington, so packed some lunches, and load up the car for a fun day that both your kids and your checking account will appreciate!

1. Levitt Pavilion 

Everyone in Arlington knows that the Levitt Pavilion has family friendly, FREE concerts and movies throughout the Summer, but did you know that the big yard at the Levitt is a fun place to have a picnic or throw a frisbee anytime of the year?

FREE Splash Pads

Arlington has two FREE splash pads, one at Don Misenheimer Park and another at California Lane Park.

2.  Arlington Public Library

Everyone also knows that the Arlington Public Library also has fun storytimes and Summer activities for kids and adults of all ages, as well as a neat Summer Reading Program!  But did you know that the library also has a Makerspace where visitors with a APL card can for FREE use a 3D Printer, Vinyl Cutter, sewing and embroidery machine and even a heat press?

3.  Veterans Park Disc Golf Course

One of the best FREE public disc golf courses in the metroplex is right here in Arlington at Veterans Park.  A fun game to play, easy to learn and inexpensive to get started, it’s a family favorite!

4.  Tierra Verde Golf Course

If you like golf, did you know that Tierra Verde Golf Course has 3 FREE practice holes for players just learning or needing a refresher?

5.  River Legacy Living Science Center

Spend a day at this huge, free park on the Trinity River, perfect for picnics, flying a kite, fishing  or playing on the playground.  They also have a really nice Living Science Center that is FREE to the public for visits to see their hands-on environmental exhibits and animals feedings.


6. Hiking

The Southwest Nature Preserve is a perfect place to get the kids outside for a morning hike or go fishing in the fishing pond, Crystal Canyon Natural Area is another neat place to hike, with a fun history of buried gold in the canyon!

7.  Dog Parks  

Speaking of parks, did you know that Arlington has 2 FREE dog parks, Tails and Trails Park off Green Oaks and Rush Creek Dog Park

8.  Knapp Heritage Park offers a glimpse into life as an Early Settler in Texas.  See the cabins, one room schoolhouse, barn and watch the blacksmith presentation on the last Sunday of each month!

9.  Wild West Comics 

Come learn to play some of the favorite board games or learn D & D at these fun and FREE game times.

10.  Arlington Fire Station Tours

Take an educational tours of the Arlington Fire Station!

11. Light Up Arlington

Always celebrated on July 3rd, this is a fun and FREE event for the entire family with live music, children’s activities and a huge fireworks show!

12.  Arlington Fourth of July Parade

Held on the morning of July 4th, this parade lets you celebrate our Independence!

13.  Viridian Stars and Stripes Celebration

The annual July 4th celebration host a fun event for open to both residents and the public, with bounce houses, children’s activities.

14. Arlington Backyard 

Free to the public, this open space at Texas Live has great games for kids and adults alike.

15.  S. J. Stovall Park 

This park has 4 Sand Volleyball Courts, 4 Tennis Courts and 2 shuffleboard courts.
