August 10-12

The Perseids Meteor Shower are peaking over the weekend, from Saturday Night to Early Monday Morning, and astronomers are expecting 50-100 meteors per hour!  Find a dark spot and lay out some blankets to watch the night sky, or head to a Dark Sky Park, like Copper Breaks State Park in Quanah, to enjoy the show!

Aug. 11th  9pm – 2am  The Rafes’ Urban Astronomy Center at the University of North Texas is hosting a watch party, starting at 9pm on August 11th for $5/person.  The will have telescopes set up for viewing Jupiter, Mars and Saturn.  Click HERE for more information.

Aug. 11th 9pm – 1am  Join park rangers and astronomers at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Fredericksburg, a Dark Sky Park, for a Perseids Watching Party!  Click HERE for more information.  $7/person ages 13 and above.   ** This would be a top pick for me since there are also fun Wine Stomping activities going on in Fredericksburg this weekend! **

Aug. 11th 9pm – 1am  Dinosaur Valley State Park will also be hosting a Star Party!  $7/person, ages 13 and above.  Visit their facebook page for more information!

Aug. 12th 5pm – 6am The George Observatory in Needville (south of Houston) is hosting a Perseids Meteor Watch Party!  $7/person  Click HERE to visit their website.


It’s Grape Harvesting time in Texas, and that means Wine Stomps across the state!

Aug. 11th  11-6pm and Aug. 12 12-5pm.  Pleasant Hill Winery, Brenham is hosting their annual Grape Stomp!  A fun, family-friendly event to stomp your own grapes!  Click HERE for more information.

Aug. 11th and Aug. 12th Pedernales Cellars, Stonewall is hosting a Grape Stomp on both days!  Tickets are available but going quickly, $25/person.  Click HERE for more information.

San Antonio

Now – Aug. 26th  San Antonio Zoo Zoorasic Park.  The zoo’s newest exhibits are over a dozen life-size dinosaurs!  Click HERE for more information!

Now – Sept 3  Witte Museum, San Antonio  The exhibit, Predators vs Prey: Dinosaurs on the Land Before Texas, brings you face-to-face with life-sized animatronic dinosaurs.  Click HERE for more information.

Dallas – Fort Worth

Now – Aug. 30th  Dollar Days at the Dallas Arboretum  Enjoy the Dallas Arboretum for just $2 admission, $5 parking and $2 admission to the Rory Meyers Children’s Garden during the month of August.  Grab lunch afterwards at The Lot!  Click HERE for more information.

Aug. 11 8pm  Movies on the Beach at Loyd Park, Grand Prairie  Come watch Monsters University on the Joe Pool Beach.  Bring your lawn chair.  Click HERE for more information.

Aug. 12  Sunday Funday at Panther Island Pavilion, Fort Worth.   This family-friendly laid-back event takes place every Sunday from June 24 through September 2. Tubes and pedal boats are available to rent, along with kayaks, canoes and Stand Up paddle boards from Backwoods Paddlesports. Local craft beer will be sold from award-winning brewery, Panther Island Brewing. Enjoy music, friends, food trucks and floating the Trinity River every Sunday at Panther Island Pavilion.
