DFW Best Spring Playdates, 2018

Spring is just around the corner, and the warm weather is a great time to get the kids out for some fun playdates where you can meet-up with friends or just hang out! Here’s my 12 favorites for this Spring, one of each week of the season!

1.  Grand Prairie 

We’re all thrilled for the opening of Epic Waters Indoor Water Park, which is the largest indoor water park in the state, i.e. larger than Great Wolf Lodge! Monday, Thursday and Fridays they open at 10am, and have 1/2 price admission Tue-Thursday after 4pm. Also, children 3 and younger are free! No outside food allowed. Lynn Creek Park opens March 3, 2018.  This city owned park offers a great ship-themed playground, with a swim beach with imported sand.  Don’t forget your sand toys!  Pack a picnic or grab lunch at the Oasis, which is the BEST place to feed fish and ducks in the metroplex!  Great during the week, packed on the weekends!  FREE for Grand Prairie residents, $10/carload for non-residents.  Click HERE for more information.

2.  Fort Worth

Seaquest Interactive Aquarium offers a new concept in aquariums, you can actually touch and in many cases feed the animals, such as iguanas, stingrays and capybaras!  Click HERE to read more!

Catch the Trinity Rail Express train, and ride to Fort Worth’s Intermodel or T&P Station.  The Intermodel is in walking distance to the Fort Worth Watergardens, and T&P Station has a great little diner on the basement, with corn hole and other games.  Your TRE ticket includes Molly the Trolley, ride to Sundance Square, play in the water, and grab lunch at one of the many restaurants.

3.  Arlington – 

The NEW Arlington library is set to open in May!  Plan a day to go check it out, let the kids run at the big grassy area at Levitt Pavilion, play in the free fountains and grab something to eat at one of the many restaurants around there, like Grease Monkey, Mellow Mushroom, or Twisted Root.  Combine it on the First Friday of the month for Preschool Skate at Arlington Skatium.  Click HERE to visit the Arlington Library website.

4. Mansfield –
Country Critters opens in March!  Click HERE to visit their website.

Elmer Oliver Nature Park Nature Play (Free Program!)
Come bring your family to play outside with natural items. This is a time for children and their parents to use their imaginations. Families can build a fort out of bamboo, make a tree cookie bridge, create a bamboo car, and so much more! Your imagination is the limit! All play items will be provided. Pre‐registration is not required for this program.

5.  Dallas

The Dallas Arboretum, Children’s Adventure Garden and lunch at the Lot is still the best spent day in Dallas. Dallas Blooms opens February 24th.  Click HERE to visit the Arboretum’s website.  Grab breakfast at Hypnotic Donuts before you go, or visit the Hypnotic Emporium!

6.  Irving

The New Toyota Music Factory’s Big Beat Dallas opens in March 2018 with a big area, live music and 8 new restaurants, and Alamo Drafthouse.  It’s located next to the Las Colinas Canals, and you can rent a paddleboard or take a gondola ride.  Click HERE to visit their website.

7.  Burleson

The Brick Indoor Pool has slides, a small lazy river and is perfect for younger children!  Click HERE for more information.

8.  Hurst

The Artisan Theater does amazing, interactive kids shows!  This Spring they’ll be presenting Pinkalicious and Curious George.  Click HERE to visit their website.

9.  Cedar Hill

Dogwood Canyon has a 1 mile, stroller-friendly hike, then grab lunch at Sams Pizza or Hillside Village Shopping center with a fun splash pad that is only for children 48″ and below.  Click HERE to visit Dogwood Canyon website.

10.  Plano

Crayola Experience opens Spring 2018 in The Shops at Willow Bend.  Make a full day of it with indoor surfing at Aquasurf in the same shopping center!
