A Laughing Horse Lodge, Port Aransas

*** Closed Permanently ***

While you can find some stilted beach houses in Port Aransas, this cute little town is known for their colorful beach cottages scattered across Mustang Island, named for the wild horses that once lived here!  We spent a week at A Laughing Horse Lodge in Port A, and loved being so close to not only the beach, but the main shopping and dining on the island!

Know Before You Go

You are located just a short drive from the island’s ONLY grocery store, Family Center IGA.

Each unit has parking right at their door.  Their is additional parking on site for guest, etc.

Our cottage didn’t have a family area, but instead we had a fun deck where we all hung out!  We only had time to cook out a couple of times, but I enjoyed just sitting back and watching the golf cars drive by!

Each cottage comes with a charcoal grill.

Our cottage came with a full kitchen, plenty of plates and silverware, plus cooking items!  We had a table with 4 chairs, and just improvised for dinner for the 5 of us!

One of our favorite dinner activities in Port Aransas is to visit Port A Seafood Company, and purchase some fresh shrimp and their homemade shrimp boil!  They will even loan you a big pot for the boil, but get their early, the pots go quickly!  Click HERE to visit their facebook page.

The 2 bedroom unit was perfect for us, with a master bedroom and bunk beds!

The only tv was in our master bedroom.

The Laughing Horse isn’t just dog-friendly, they’ll make you want a dog if you don’t have one!  I loved that they offer water bowls, a dog bath for rinsing off the sand after a romp on the beach, and even dog tags with the Laughing Horse’s address for them to wear during your stay!

The beach was just a short walk down the road, and we did just that every morning about sun-up during our stay!  I loved how many shells we could find during our walks!

You can drive on the beach with a Beach Pass.  The Pass cost $12 and can be purchased right on the beach, and is good for a year.

Walk or Ride your Bike

Being right in town, we were also just a short walk, ride or drive to all the fun stores and restaurants in Port A!  In the evenings we would ride over to Deserted Island Ice Cream, which we LOVE and completely recommend!  We also visited Hog Island Taco Company several, several times, because it’s delicious!  Click HERE to see their facebook page!

My kids love taking their bikes to Port A, and I let them ride just about everywhere during the week, when it’s not as crowded!  You can also rent bikes while there!  We like Big Shell Bikes, click HERE to see their facebook page.

Golf Carts

You’ll quickly understand that Port Aransas is ALL about the golf carts!  People rent them to drive around town and onto the beach, they even have some with trailers!  It’s so much fun!  There are plenty of rental companies on the island!
