BSR Cable Park, Waco

Have you heard of BSR Cable Park in Waco? I’ve been overwhelmed with questions this summer about it, all saying that it looked great but was it famiy friendly?  Today, BSR invited us out for a day in the sun and to decide for ourselves!  After an incredible time of fun, relaxing in the lazy river, thrilling slides and just playing in the water, the answer is definitely YES, and I’m wondering why we waited so long!

Now, I’ve made a list of My Mommy Tips to help you have the BEST day possible at BSR, so pack up the family for a daycation or a book a cabin and spend the entire weekend!

Know Before You Go

Fill out the online waiver before you go. Otherwise, you will stand in a LONG line to use their ipads.

Outside food and drinks are allowed, so pack your cooler!  Alcohol is allowed, but remember, No Glass.

Children 12 and under MUST wear a US life guard approved life jacket.  They do not supply them, so bring one with you.

Avoid the crowds and go on a weekday!

It’s temping to park as close to the building as possible, but the best parking is under a tree by the water!

Lazy River

We love floating in the river, so I couldn’t wait to get on what BSR proclaims as the World’s Longest Lazy River!

This is the laziest lazy river you’ll ever find!  Pumps do push the water along, but it took us about 45 minutes to get all the way around, which was just perfect!  There is only one entrance and exit, so be ready before you get in!

The water is about 3′ deep.  No lifeguards are present, so you swim at your own risk and children under 12 MUST wear a life jacket.  Bring your own because they are not provided.

Visiting on a Wednesday, we almost had the river to ourselves, although I’m sure it’s not like that on weekends.

Since we are river rats, my hubby didn’t forget the waterproof radio.  Again, we didn’t have anyone with us on the river to bother.

Had I known it was really THAT peaceful, I would have thrown my kindle in a waterproof bag and floated around the river with it!

Good luck keeping the kids in a tube!  Bring along a football for some tubin’ fun!

RIMG0174

Tubes

I didn’t know if we needed to bring our own tubes or not, so I spent 30 minutes packing ours, along with the air pump and batteries!  Nope, BSR has got you covered!  AND they are the BEST tubes ever!  Cup holder for your drink? GOT IT!  They even have a pillow to rest your head!  I was very tempted to take a nap on the river!

Tubes are FREE!

They also have cooler tubes!  Fill up your cooler with snacks and drinks, no glass and bring it along!  It’s not a short walk from the parking lot to the lazy river, so if you have a cooler with wheels or a wagon, you might want to bring it!

Throw your sunscreen in the cooler, you’ll want to reapply, and cold lotion just feels great!

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your knees, unless you are in the 1% that finds Tuber Tans attractive…

Slides

The slides were so much fun!  Life jackets are required on the slides, but they do have adult ones to use, or you can bring your own.

RIMG0199

It’s a bird!  It’s a plane!  No, that’s my daughter!

There are three slides, and the Royal Flush sends you flying way out into the water!  The more experienced riders were doing flips and dives, but we were just trying not to land on our heads!

My seven year old even did the Royal Flush!  He loved it!

The pro shop even sells t-shirts proclaiming that you rode the Royal Flush!

No life guards are present, swim and slide at your own risk.  You do sign a waiver for a reason. RIMG0242Swimming

There are plenty of places to swim near the slides, and also a fun beach where you can watch the waveboarders!  Bring your sand toys!

RIMG0264My kids loved yelling at the wakeboarders to come by and spray them as they came around, and most of the guys and girls were great and would try!

The little swim beach was a great way to end the day, just watching the kids swim with the new friends they made!  That’s kinda what summer is all about.

Cable Park

BSR is first and foremost a cable park, and even if you aren’t coming to ski, you’ll enjoy swimming and watching those that are!

RIMG0228

Some are just amazing!

If you have never been on a wakeboard, they will give you some instruction, but the best way to learn is to just grab on and go!

Lines are longer on the weekends.

The cables run until about 8pm during the week, but on weekends they turn on the lights and they do night runs until midnight!

My seven year-old was really excited about the Wake Boarding Camps they have during the summer!  Kids 5-11 can attend a day camp, and older kids can stay the week!  I love that he can go for a day, or a full week.  I’m signing him up for a couple of days while my older kids are on a mission trip with our church.  If I’m willing to drive 1.5 hours each day just to take my kid to camp, you know I really like this place!

BSR also offers birthday parties!

Changing Rooms/Restrooms

There are changing rooms and restrooms at the main office, and they are air conditioned! For some reason, air conditioned changing rooms are a big deal for me!  They didn’t have changing tables.

RIMG0163

Volleyball

BSR has two sand volleyball courts.  I realize sand volleyball isn’t important to everyone, but it’s very important to us!  Don’t forget your ball!RIMG0173Bar and Grill

Sit upstairs on the patio and watch as the riders come by while you enjoy dinner or a drink!

RIMG0260Cabins

The only problem with BSR’s cabins is they don’t have enough.  Cute little cabins with big porches facing the water, they are rented out months in advance!

Since they are all rented out, I was trying to be discreet when I took this picture.  Check the BSR website, they have pictures of the inside and out.

RIMG0153

Hot Tub

Looking at the hot tub, I immediately have visions of fall evenings at BSR, watching the stars twinkling in the night sky, and kids roasting marshmallows at the nearby fire pit.  People were in the hot tub in June, and I bet the big fire gets lit nightly, but just seeing it made me want to make my fall reservations now!  BSR is open year round, and the prices of cabin rentals go down quite a bit.

The island around the cable park is the home to the BSR lemurs!  During the heat of the day they were unseen, but at about 7pm they came down to the waters edge and we watched with fascination as they climbed on the signs!
