Hollywood and Vine, Glen Rose

This Restaurant is now permanently closed.

My daughter went to Girl Scout summer camp for a week, at Steven’s Ranch on the Brazos River.  She absolutely loves it, especially since she was doing horse camp!  Just like her mommy, she loves horses!  Not only did she get to ride every day, but they also swim, hike and have a great time!  My girl’s only jeer about camp is the food.  My picky-est eater, she claims to only eat peanut butter sandwiches all week!  So I knew she would be hungry when I picked her up!

We took her to eat in nearby Glen Rose at Hollywood and Vine, named for the  fun, beach themed restaurant’s address, 101 Vine Street.   The large Hollywood sign may seem out of place in west Texas, but Glen Rose is such an eclectic, artsy kinda “anything goes” town, that it’s not surprising to see it hanging just outside of the town square.

Terrific decor sits in every corner of the place, inside and out!  Just above the parking an air boat waits indefinitely on the side of a hill!  We walked around the dining areas, but choose to sit on the covered patio, which was comfortable even on a warm July evening.

Live bands grace the stage on weekends, but we arrived too early, which meant my youngest could entertain us with their renditions of Christmas carols and camp songs, while we waited on our food.

Known for their burgers, several of us ordered cheeseburgers, while my daughter asked for a chicken fried steak, making up for 6 days of “starvation”, according to her!

Our waitress gave us a quick history lesson on the building, which is over 100 years old and originally served as a town inn.  During remodeling, various items from its construction were found which are now displayed inside.

After we ate, we were surprised to find that Elvis had been watching us from the upstairs balcony!  We left singing rounds of “Hound Dog”, a nice change from the 5th rendition of “Bazooka Bubblegum”, the current favorite camp song!

The picturesque town of Glen Rose offers lots of fun activities!  Visit Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, Dinosaur Valley State Park, Dinosaur World, canoe or tube down the Brazos River or spend a summer Saturday night watching The Promise.
