Memorial Day Weekend in Granbury

Each Memorial Day weekend, the town of Granbury celebrates with a fun 3-day festival in the historic courthouse square!  Cruisin’ Granbury, as it’s called, has a retro, 50’s theme and you’ll find lots of poodle skirts, slicked back hair, hot rods and even an Elvis impersonator!  The 2016 entertainment includes live music all 3 days, with a street dance on Saturday night and a hot dog eating contest on Sunday!

The Hood County courthouse is the centerpiece of the Granbury Square, which is adorned with restaurants, boutiques and antique stores and the Historic Nutt Hotel.   Carriages by Wendy offers a horse-drawn tour around the square.

We didn’t have a chance while we were in town, but I really want to visit the Granbury Theater Company!    On Saturday mornings they offer children’s plays, which are interactive to delight and engage the audience.

On Monday, part of the square closed down for the annual Memorial Day Celebration!   I love these signs made from license plates!

The Field of Flags is a memorial to those who served and lost their lives for our country.  It’s located at 3602 E Hwy 377, Granbury.

Granbury Ghost and Legends Tour

A couple of years ago, our family did the Granbury Ghost and Legends Tour!  It was wonderful, and definitely something to check out.  Filled with historical facts and myths, it was fun and not at all scary for my children!  Click HERE to read more about it!

Barking Rocks Vineyard has wine tastings and often live music on Friday evenings.  Click HERE to visit their website.

Of course, my family LOVES the FREE Granbury City Beach Park!  The city brought in soft white sand from South Padre Island to make this oasis on Lake Granbury!  Click HERE to read more about it. cimg0228[1]

Granbury has some amazing Bed and Breakfast, and a couple located just across the street from the City Beach Park, but we choose to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn.  Located right next to the lake, and with an indoor pool, it was a lot of fun for the kids!

Brazos drive in

The Brazos Drive-In is the oldest continually running Drive-In in the state!   My kids love for us to get there early enough to get front row parking, so that they can run around playing football and chasing bubbles before the movie starts!  I love the soft grass on the front row, and laying out a blanket to watch the movie!  I also appreciate the intimate setting, with only one screen.  My husband loves the great pricing, at $18 a carload!  Click HERE to read more about it!

Our trip to Granbury would have been incomplete without getting a cheeseburger from Grumps!  Great food and super friendly service!  The patio dining in the back is covered, and a great place to take the kids when they are just a little too excited to eat with normal people (not that MY kids are ever like that – cough cough!)!
