preschool field journal

My co-teacher and I made these cute little “field journals” for our preschool class as a last day of school gift.  They are adorable, and the idea was totally that of my co-teacher, Holley.  My only contribution was purchasing the natural looking pencils from Amazon, $2.67 a dozen.  They are made from sticks, and I love them!  But the pencils were even Holley’s idea, she just told me what to buy.  She used paper bags for the cover, and recycled paper inside.  Raffia was used to tie the pages together.  The little note reads:

Parents:  We invite you to take your little ones on a “nature walk” and ask them to draw in their field journals what they find or see.  At their age, you may get a few scribbles or even a torn book by the end of your adventure.  But, the ideas of observing the world around and using their own ideas to record what they have found will be planted and hopefully, one day, blossom into a great love of nature and self-expression.
